Val Moogz: Songs that feel like a hug from your best mate
B I O G R A P H Y
Making waves on the Aussie music scene is South Coast NSW songwriter Val Moogz, with their distinctive blend of soulful indie pop rock. Blending lyrical depth with smooth grooves and timeless songwriting, Val Moogz crafts songs that feel like a hug from your best mate. A seasoned and engaged performer, audiences are welcomed into the Val Moogz family, with each show inviting warmth, humour and connection. Since launching as Val Moogz in 2021, they've steadily built momentum across the East Coast, with standout performances at Cobargo Folk Festival 2025, Milton Folk, Jazz & Blues Festival 2025, Culburra Beach Festival 2025, and Wanderer Festival 2025. They’ve supported major acts including Ben Lee, The Whitlams, Alex Lloyd, and Kingswood, have featured across numerous ABC and community radio broadcasts across the state, and were selected as one of the 15 artists for MusicNSW's Regional Tours. Their recent touring includes the Murrumbidgee Pacifica tour with Wollongong rising stars and triple J Unearthed winners, The Chordroys, and longtime Canberra favourites, The Burley Griffin, as well as the MUVE Beyond The Curtain tour currently underway.
With a passion for songwriting always front and centre, Val Moogz continues to draw from a deep catalogue of original songs, growing their body of released music one song at a time. Disco Ball, set for release in October 2026 alongside the Disco Ball Release Tour, marks the final song of a four-part series featuring earlier tracks Ride Round The Sun, Feels So Right and Rena. A celebration of queer joy, Disco Ball is a journey of self-acceptance and discovery. An invitation to embrace who you are, and let your light shine out.
In August 2026, Val Moogz spent two weeks at Plumwood Mountain on beautiful Walbunja country writing songs inspired by loved ones and the natural world. In a world of rapidly developing technology and an ever-present chase for perfection, the residency offered an opportunity to get back to basics and focus on the raw expression of the songwriting process. The resulting collection will form a new album, soon to be recorded with the same focus on simplicity, connection and human imperfections. Val Moogz began performing as a teenager in Sydney under their birth name, Hannah Matysek. A graduate of the Talent Development Project, they’ve recorded with Sony Music, and shared stages with some of Australia’s most respected artists. Their extensive live history continues to shape the Val Moogz project, with live recordings captured at Four Winds in Bermagui and Wanderer Festival reflecting the warmth, energy and connection at the heart of their performances.
